Pets We Want Them To Live Forever

The trouble with pets is ....

They don't last forever.

Don't worry Jack and Rollie are fine.

It will happened one day I know and though my son will be a little older , it will be hard , some might say it's just a pet.

Wrong.

A pet is so much it is your friend , your brother or sister your confidant.

And when you are an only child it is such a comfort you wouldn't believe ( I had a cat growing up called Boots ; "Puss in Boots" how twee is that?!( and yes I was an in,y child as well)

Having only had madcap hamsters before who died it doesn't really prepare your child for the eventuality of what will come . It is an issue time old which we dodge , and when the go conservation comes it is hard to know what to say.

I know he's a teen , he's still a child and and as such the concept of how long lives can be elusive to the young .

So how did you broach this subject according to your child's age?

  1. I reckon kids surprise you with how they deal with things like that. It's a sad but important lesson I guess x Hard to imagine life without our furry friends though ;( x

  2. My mum's cat recently died under the table and my eldest (age 6) accepted that death is a part of life. My 4 year old however refused to go under tables as he thought that's why she had died. We don't have any pets as I think I'd get far too upset when they died.

  3. My boys were into their teens (just) when they first experienced the death of a family pet. It's the worst thing about having a pet - the fact that it hurts so much when they die But like people - it's better to have the love and lose it than to never experience it at all.
My heart went in my mouth when I read the title...
    I'm so glad they're Ok. x
