Beef and Honey Slow Cooker Stew

Ingredients
30g/ 1 oz Plain flour
450g/ 11lb braising steak cut into 2.5cm /1in cubes
3tbsp vegetable oil
1 onion
2 carrots
2leeks roughly chopped
1/2 medium turnip
1tbsp honey
550ml/ 1 pint beef stock
2large potatoes cut into chunks sea salt and freshly ground black pepper

Preperation

Place the flour in a freezer bag then add the cubes of meat and shake well to coat.

Heat the oil in a large pan and brown the meat on all sides.(Do this in batches as adding too much meat at once makes the meat steam rather than brown.

Heat the oil in the same pan you used for the meat, adding more oil if needed. Once the onion is browned.

Get your slow cooker out

Add the carrots, leeks, turnip, honey and beef stck and return the meat to the slow cooker.

About 20 minutes before serving add the potato to the stew ( adding them at this point means they keep their shape). Season to taste , with sea salt and freshly ground black pepper before serving.

Serve with crusty bread or dumplings.

  2. This sounds lovely! I love honey and use it on ham, parsnips etc but have never used it in a dish like this - I will defo try this one out. My mum always said 'honey' is natures healer so I think this would be a lovely dish to serve up to beat the family winter colds!

  3. We dont have a slow cooker, but this sounds lovely. It reminds me of the time a friend of mine made a stew though - and told her husband it was called mushroom surprise. He ate it and asked what the surprise was as he didnt see any mushrooms - she replied that was the surprise, she forgot to buy them haha!!

  5. Love the look of this recipe, I have pinned it to my recipe board on Pinterest. I love recipes where I haven't lost the will to live before I've finished reading the ingredients list plus I love those words "roughly chopped". This is certainly one to try in the Winter months plus I also like to batch cook and freeze. Thanks

  6. Do you think I could make this veggie friendly using Quorn or Soya?

  7. Will you come round to my house & cook for me? I have a theory that all my friends should do that, and leave me with a couple of days of leftovers, because then I would never need to cook myself!
