Local Pub Food #LocalPubGrub

Pub Grub has taken on a celestial aspect in recent years long gone are the limited choices of chips with scampi, pie or sausages . I found the wide choice of food excellent  particularly   after a long Bank Holiday walk , and the guest ales and heart food provided much welcome refreshment.

My family and I enjoy real pub grub not the ping and go of the microwave that sadly frequents some establishments , thankfully this is not true of my local pub which is steeped in good beers and ales as well as history. The pub is every year the scene of the Bonnie Prince reenactment which is a good family occasion and a great reason for a get together and  #LocalPubGrub.

The only thing my local pub is lacking is a play garden for the kids but this is not really feasible as the beer garden is next to the river and any fencing would spoil the stunning and unbelievable views. The Crew and Harpur is a pub that is ideally placed and offers accommodation as well as hearty #LocalPubGrub

The Crew and Harpur is a converted 17 th coaching inn , it is situated between the medieval villages of Swarkstone and Melbourne. The adjoining stable block has been turned into comfortable and welcoming accommodation. The Crew and Harpur is ideally place for business travellers and tourists alike, with easy links to the motorways. East Midlands airport is only 7 miles away the Crew and Harpur provides easy access routes to Alton Towers, Denby Pottery and many many more outstanding attractions.

On this occasion myself and my husband went on a long bank holiday walk which started at the pub and of course finished at the pub , so we treated ourselves after the long walk by eating there. The pub has a good menu and caters very well for children . We love the place so much that we have often had our Christmas day dinner there , whatever your hunger pang they have a dish that will meet your need.

As a family we love that our local pub  is a family friendly establishment and treats children and teenagers with the respect they deserve , if they want to swap peas for sweetcorn then no problem they will do it. When I came with husband after that long walk I mentioned we ate in the snug area and it felt and was very intimate , you could watch the world go by from inside the mum and yet gaze into the beer garden and watch the river slowly babble by.

Disclosure : I Paid for my meal myself but was kindly sent Gorden Ramseys cook book "Great British Pub Food.
